Disaster Preparedness: What’s It To You? Part II

A recent Red Cross survey found that few Americans believe they face the threat of disasters and expect that government-sponsored emergency personnel would show up and help them if they did. In Part I on Preparedness we discussed why that is failed logic at best. In this second part of the series on preparedness, we will take about what things you can do to take ownership in your personal preparedness.

Since September 11th, our nation has become much more focused on preparedness. In the fall of 2005, Hurricane Katrina brought the issue home again – preparedness is important. Sadly, being prepared for an emergency is often only on our radar after a disaster happens – after lives are lost and millions of dollars are needed in donations and restoration costs.
